Dr. Vipul Patel is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with specialized expertise in complex hand and upper extremity disorders as well as general orthopedic conditions. He practices in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he is actively involved in training orthopedic surgery residents. His expertise includes both surgical and non-surgical management of hand, wrist, and upper extremity conditions. His expertise includes the treatment of fractures of the elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand; nerve injuries and compression syndromes such as carpal tunnel; tendon injuries and disorders affecting motion and strength; and degenerative conditions such as arthritis of the wrist, thumb, and fingers. He also provides advanced care for acute and chronic wrist pain as well as complex reconstructive problems of the hand and upper extremity and general orthopedic conditions.

Dr. Patel trained at Harvard Medical School, NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, and SUNY Downstate Medical Center, completing advanced fellowship training in Hand, Upper Extremity, and Microvascular Surgery at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital. He also gained additional expertise in microsurgery at Columbia University and in orthopedic biomechanics at NYU’s Musculoskeletal Research Center, giving him a unique perspective on the mechanics and healing of the hand and upper extremity. His practice also offers the latest in regenerative medicine, including stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Patel has served as an in-house physician for Madison Square Garden, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and the Martha Graham Dance School. For over a decade, he has also dedicated himself to global medical missions in Guatemala and India, providing free pediatric hand surgery and training local surgeons.

Dr. Patel is widely published, has authored book chapters, and has presented his research at national meetings, earning multiple awards for excellence in orthopedic research. His approach to medicine is centered on shared decision-making, ensuring patients are fully informed and engaged in their treatment journey.
